Las Vegas is facing a major bed bug outbreak, with four of its most prominent hotels affected. The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has reported the presence of bed bugs at Encore, the Venetian, the Mirage, and the Excalibur Hotel and Casino. This discovery has raised concerns for the health and safety of guests staying at these establishments.

Inspectors Uncover Infestation

Health records cited by 8 News Now reveal that SNHD inspectors were called in to investigate the situation. The last reported incident occurred in December when a guest at Encore filed a complaint, leading to the discovery of a live bed bug in a room. This prompted immediate action, with the affected room being promptly taken out of service. Prior to this, bed bugs were found in rooms at the other three resorts in September and October.

Industry Response and Containment Efforts

The Nevada Resort Association has addressed the situation, stating that the outbreak has affected only four rooms across the four hotels. They have described the incidents as “extremely rare and isolated occurrences” and assured that members are taking swift action in compliance with health and safety requirements. However, the source of the infestation and any potential links between the affected hotels remain unclear.

History of Bed Bug Incidents in Vegas

This is not the first time Las Vegas has grappled with bed bug infestations. Between 2022 and 2023, bed bugs were discovered at seven other popular hotels, including Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Circus Circus, Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Sahara. The recurrence of such incidents raises concerns about the spread of these pests within the city’s hospitality industry.
