Lythgoe’s Response

In the legal documents filed on Tuesday, Lythgoe has taken a direct and forceful approach in addressing his former colleague and friend at “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” He has labeled Abdul as a “well-documented fabulist, with a long history of telling wild stories that are untethered from reality and are primarily designed to attract attention and make Abdul appear to be the victim of dreadful misfortune.”

Lythgoe’s filing includes a series of private emails that he alleges were sent by Abdul, containing affectionate and adoring language. One email from September 12, 2014, reads, “Hi sweetheart — thank you for this lovely ‘gift.’ Please forgive me for not calling yesterday. Forever grateful to have you in my life! Love, love LOVE YOU! XO P.”

Another email, dated June 20, 2014, expresses gratitude for beautiful flowers and emphasizes the strength of their friendship and their joint projects.

Public Tweets and Photos

Additionally, Lythgoe’s filing includes numerous public tweets from Abdul to his @dizzyfeet handle, spanning from 2009 to 2015 during their time working on ‘SYTYCD.’ Many of these tweets feature photos of them together and affectionate captions, further reinforcing the amicable nature of their relationship.

Legal Battle

Abdul had filed a lawsuit against Lythgoe and FremantleMedia North America in December, alleging sexual assault on two occasions. Lythgoe’s recent submission of emails, messages, and tweets aims to demonstrate Abdul’s true feelings towards him during and after the period she claims the abuse occurred.

Impugning Abdul’s Character

Lythgoe also attempts to discredit Abdul’s character by asserting that he advocated for her hiring on ‘Idol’ and ‘SYTYCD’ despite opposition from other executives due to her alleged erratic behavior and substance abuse issues.

Challenging Abdul’s Credibility

Furthermore, Lythgoe questions Abdul’s credibility by casting doubt on her account of a plane crash she claims to have survived in 1992, citing the absence of records and inconsistencies in her interviews.
