Monty Williams of the Detroit Pistons did not hold back his frustration with the NBA officiating following a tough loss to the New York Knicks. The Pistons head coach criticized the referees for what he called the “worst no-call” of the season, which occurred in the final seconds of the game, ultimately contributing to the Pistons’ 49th loss of the season.

Controversial No-Call

Williams was particularly incensed by a sequence in the final moments of the 4th quarter that he believes cost his team the game. With just under 10 seconds remaining and the Pistons holding a one-point lead, a contentious play unfolded involving Ausar Thompson and Donte DiVincenzo of the Knicks. DiVincenzo’s actions, which went uncalled, led to a turnover and subsequent basket by the Knicks, ultimately resulting in a 3-point deficit for the Pistons with only 2.8 seconds left on the clock.

Williams’ Outburst

Following the game, Williams expressed his frustration, stating, “We had a chance to win the game, and the guy dove into Ausar’s legs, and there was a no-call. That’s an abomination. You cannot miss that in an NBA game. Period! That situation is Exhibit A in what we’ve been dealing with all season long and enough is enough!”
